Men Need an Example Today...Follow Jesus!

Jesus was born in a manger (i.e. stable). And although he was destined for greatness his beginning was uneventful. No pump and circumstance. It could be said his childhood and upbringing was fairly normal even though he was exceptional. What’s your excuse for not attaining great things in this life, too, old or young, not enough money or time, too black or white, wrong side of town? None of these will determine your status in the kingdom. Luke 2:7

Jesus interacted with the scholars and leaders of his day as a child. At twelve years old he stayed behind in the city to talk with them. When his parent finally caught up with him he basically said what were you expecting? I’m about my father’s business. He knew why he was here and was doing it. He spoke to his parents as a man even then. Luke 2:48-49

HE went through a wilderness experience that was to prepare him for his ministry. The Spirit of God drove him into the wilderness to be tested by Satan 40 days; this testing would prepare Jesus for his ministry and the ultimate defeat of Satan. This was an unpleasant and trying time for Christ but it was necessary. These wilderness experiences are also necessary in our lives and can give direction, instruction and strength for challenges to come. We must be tested to overcome challenges; if we don’t develop depth in ourselves the slightest obstacles can throw us off.  Mark 1:12-13

Jesus developed a team that would carry out his mission after he was gone. He had to be quite a man to call on perfect strangers, say follow me, and they followed. How many are following you? The creator of the universe selected a mixed bag of ordinary men to carry on his ministry. These men would be called disciples-one who accepts and carries out the doctrine of another. He taught these men by being an example of what he wanted them to be. He experienced life with them and developed a trust like no other. These men would spread the gospel throughout the known world, after Christ ascended into heaven and many of them would pay the ultimate price for their beliefs and ministry. Most of them died for the faith.

He would also show zeal that is in short order today when he cleansed the temple. Jesus filled with righteous anger because of the money changers activities at the temple. He made a simple whip and drove them, their animals and money out of the temple. He overturned tables and poured out their containers of money. Would you have the guts to do anything close to that today? Most won’t but if men don’t no one else will either. Stop shirking your responsibility and understand only you can do it. It’s your responsibility and no one else’s.  John 2:15-16

Jesus would prove his intentions by going to the cross, defeating Satan and saving mankind through his work. His resurrection proved his authenticity to the disciples and drives many Christians today. Most of the apostles followed Christ in death and considered it an honor to die for the faith. What are you willing to die for? How are you making a difference in the world? Will you be remembered after you are gone? Do something courageous, model your life after the life of Christ you won’t be disappointed. Matthew 28:18-20
